The Biannual Brazilian Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks (SBRN) - of which this is the 8th event - is a forum dedicated to Neural Networks (NNs) and other models of computational intelligence. The emphasis of the Symposium will be on original theories and novel applications of these computational models. The Symposium welcomes paper submissions either in English, Portuguese or Spanish. The IEEE Computer Society will publish the proceedings. Selected, extended, and revised papers from SBRN'2004 will be also considered for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Neural Systems and of the Journal of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems. SBRN'2004 is sponsored by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and co-sponsored by SIG/INNS/Brazil Special Interest Group of the International Neural Networks Society in Brazil. It will take place on September 29th to October 1st, and will be held in São Luis, the "Island of Love" and one of the most beautiful and famous beaches in Brazil. São Luís is a World Heritage island, located on the northeast coast. It is the only capital in Brazil founded by the French. It has a wonderful Portuguese Historical Center, along with an exquisite local sea food, and is close to one of the most beautiful desert in the Word: Lençois Maranhenses, where pristine water lays lazily, distributed onto several dunes. SBRN'2004
will be held together with the XVII Brazilian Symposium on Artificial
Intelligence (http://www.sbc.org.br/sbia) (SBIA) and Machine Learning
for Signal Processing 2004 (http://isp.imm.dtu.dk/mlsp2004)(MLSP 2004).
All Symposiums will feature keynote speeches and tutorials by world-leading
researchers. *
Sponsored by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC).
